Gratitude Has Great Benefits!

November is traditionally associated with being thankful. Many of us will share what we are thankful each day during the month while others will go around the table at Thanksgiving sharing. In the spirit of being thankful, Whole HeARTs Family Center wanted to encourage and support your gratitude journey by looking at the benefits of gratitude in addition to providing you with daily inspiration for how you can cultivate gratitude.
Gratitude has been linked with a whole host of positive benefits to an individual.

  • Associated with greater happiness
  • An increase in positive emotions
  • Boosts well being
  • Relish good experiences
  • Improves physical and mental health
  • Helps an individual deal and cope with adversity
  • Encourages stronger relationships in both forming and solidifying
  • Makes one a better friend
  • Helps with sleep
  • Helps the heart
  • Linked to a better immune system
  • Helps protects from negative emotions that come with extreme loss
  • Helps reduce stress
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Higher levels of success
  • Potential to help increase attachment and encourage closeness

This is just the tip of the ice berg in terms of benefits that gratitude can play in your life and you children’s lives. So really when looking at this list there seems to be so many good reasons to demonstrate gratitude on a daily basis and expressions of that gratitude doesn’t have to look a certain way. It can be expressed and applied to the past by looking at positive memories or previous blessings. By looking at what one currently has in life or by even looking at the future by holding onto hope and an optimistic attitude. The point though is that gratitude can be cultivated by anyone.

The University of California Berkeley offers a gratitude quiz to look at your gratitude levels. You might surprise yourself and find out that you are more grateful than you think.

During the month of November, as mentioned above, there will be daily different suggestions for helping to cultivate an attitude of gratitude that you can take into your daily life all year long!
